
Leona Woods was an American physicist who helped build the first nuclear reactor and the first atomic bomb. She graduated from high school at 14 and earned her degree in physics from the University of Chicago when she was 18. At age 23, she was the youngest and only female member of the fifty person team that built and experimented with the world’s first nuclear reactor.
